Rehearsal X UAL Acting
I have to say when I first read Caryl Churchill "Love and Information"I was so baffled it was crazy. But then a realised that the play is meant to be like that so that we will be able to make it our unique way.
So in this unit we are gonna need major skills I am talking about the first unit skills. At the end of this unit I am aspiring to have:
Structure and form – how Churchill organises materials within her work
• elements of the performing arts – On how exploits dialogue, characterisation,, physicality, tension and other dramatic elements and the links across the art forms
• performance techniques – what approaches and specific skills performers of her works adopt in performing her plays;
• contexts - Understand explores, reflects and is influenced by social, historical and cultural context of Love and Information.
Actors do not act, but demonstrate a part.
REHEARSAL TIME !!!
Week 1
We started the week of calm since we were recovering from our Macbeth performance that went amazingly BTW. Sheneagh circled us all up and with the person sitting next to you was your reading partner.The goal is to enhance reading skill and confidence through practice with a purpose. A theatre is most successful when the students are crazy about the script,but in this case we were really scared of how it could turn out after reading the scripts lets just say it wasn't looking good.
Seeing as we have a really big class and Im talking about 30 pupils so our teach split us into 2 groups and she preferable put us with people we have yet to work with so that we can share each others skills that some may not have.

I am pretty sure everyone had a rough idea of the sections we wanted to act, after all you could pick as many as you can do. In the first group discussion we jotted down our acting partners and scenes and we started talking props and the ideas that we had made for our version of love and information.
I choose to act in:
Earthquake: With Mya Garret
"Have you seen the earthquake? There’s this building my god you think things are solid but
they just break.
Yes I’ve seen it
. Imagine being in it, imagine you’re lying on your back and there’s this wall a few inches above your face and you can’t sit up even an inch and if you do it might come down on you. And the air running out, you keep trying to get a deep breath but you can’t breath deeply enough because very soon there’s going to be no more oxygen. And if you were injured if you’re in pain while all that’s going on and where are you family are they dead or in agony and will anyone come to get you out and how many hours or days, I’m just so upset by it.
But you don’t care. "
Myself and Mya thought long and hard on how to make this scenario unique and different. Watching over 3 or 4 versions of "earthquake" to get some inspiration somehow.We wanted to make this scenario more of a comedy scene.When you do read the scene its sad because we are talking about and earthquake that has hit a building and what its like for the people suffering in the earthquake, it is a very sensitive subject to talk but it would be funny in a way in which we are not make fun of the people in the earthquake, but funny as in our setting.So we decided on two news anchor that hate each other,delivering news on the breaking news of and earthquake. I was playing the most sincere anchor whereas Mya played the anchor who could give a damn about the earthquake but we we would only be nasty to each other when were not together which is rare.

Technical:For the lighting we wanted a simple spotlight on the both of us so that the audience could capture our scene.For humour preferences we thought that we could play news round music at the beginning and the end for the audience to feel as if they really are in the broadcasting room.Iknow great idea.
Star: Monologue
"
The monologue covers mostly information talking about the sun and how long it takes to travel to earth and 2.8 million years ago.this had to be one of the most hardest ones for me because I didn't know how to make sense of it and how to act with it.but I had some help from my teacher Monique and she gave me some ideas on how to go about it. She told me that i didn't need to understand it but it is the setting and the background story that I give it. So my firsts idea was a boring teacher then a an astronaut that works for NASA .I finally decide to be this very intelligent scientist that lives by herself and is on the verge of completing an experiment.
Props:Hand written sources about the sun on black card paper and with white chalk.
Technical:A spotlight would really help because I think the scene has a lot of information and a spotlight is a powerful stage lighting instrument and I feel because its so short it will give the scene power.
Dream:With Kieran

This has to be one of my favourite ones because just like the others we wanted it to be different so something unexpected. So we came up with a story line where I played a side man to my cheating, lying mistress how is also married and we decide one day to talk about our relationship over some salsa dancing a club.It would be something different and funny for our viewers to seeing as we both suck at salsa dance. But acting and dancing at the time has to give us a great grade there.
Props:Blazer and tie for me.
Technical:For our tech we where thinking prom night once the slow songs starts to come one . so we went for a good old classic disco ball light glistening on our foreheads for the humour and to top it all off Earth by Tyler the Creator playing softly in the background. How romantic.
Recluse:With Tristan & Deja

This scene gave us really stalker vibes ,gossip and the negatives of being famous. It was very easy for us to find a story time and we where looking at scandals in the news paper and even how reports interrogate celebs. In this scene we wanted to portray a celeb couple who has been all over the social media pages and magazine over a very bad recent scandal. Deja(husband) and Tristan(wife) are trying to hide from the must annoyingest reporter on planet earth(Me).

Technical:We thought of ways to show that there is a wall blocking me from seeing the could to make life easier on our tech team we requested for there to be a spotlight on whenever the couple spoken and off when ever the reporter didn't speak.
Shrink:With Pedro

Shrink is the only scene that I am in because it is basically surrounded by built up tension between two people. reading through the scene this week we realised that there was an object or thing that was important and it cures ,partly cures.like some into the future technology. After going back and forth on how to create a story line for us to set in we finally made our decision and that was to set it in a prison with the highest tech security you can find in the country. Comes a spoiled ,selfish no good teen comes to visit her low life trouble-maker of a brother and tensions fly and then BOOM!

Technical :A warm light trough out the scene because our dialogue is so strong our lighting needs to be calm.
During the first week my group and I decide that we should all make a team effort and all be directors of your own scenes ,to each put our leadership skills to the test for the last unit of the year. We are ahead of the game,completing the first week we had already sent our tech run to the production team ready for the final day.
Week 2
With just a couple more weeks to go until the big performance and we had set a goal as a group to have a full running order of the production. I n this week we looked back onto our context blogs where we collected some information on the 7 sections of the play.We saw the 7 seven sections as the earth being created by God or even different days of the week. In this rehearsal class we thought of ways in which we can all be in one scene and that was the Wedding video.In between every section everyone could have two lines to say each and in the end we will all come out for the last wedding video scene.
During that week of rehearsal we would rotate ever 10-20 minuets with our scene partners. this was also a great way for us to learn our lines quicker and receive feed back from each other whether it was about projection or our articulation in our speech.
Coming to the end of the week we were preforming to our teachers Rob and Sheaghna.
Feedback for Group 2:All in all it was a bit rust because certain story lines from within the group didn't make scenes and needs room for improvement. We should be able to hear #your voices loud and clear from the back of the theatre. US the forth wall theory to play along with you character so you engage the viewers and don't make it look predictable "
Using our teachers advice we continued to start our rehearsals off with a vocal warm up to help us set it straight. to not make our section predictable and fun we decide to play the Wii song between blackouts and intermissions to make it different.
Week 3
In this week we have to be off book which means no more reading from to script , but to our advantage in week 2 we literally practised everyday in school and sometimes over the phone. I have discovered and tested my new way of remembering your line. I have had opportunity to teach my peers.

A couple of them said it was effective .
During this we we spoke and preformed on how the stage is going to be set up . As you see in many of the Caryl love &information plays it is preformed in a white box meaning you and the audience can imagine where in the world are you.Like I so we decided said we want to be different and Maddie from the tech team suggested that we have white pipes to make frame in a house our building. So we are also going to add blocks to our setting that nothing gets moved during intervals. We also decided to add newspapers as the information seeing as the play is more on the love side so its to balance everting together.
Week 4
I n this week it was crunch time for our team it was time to add bits and bubs are now. With everyone present in the group we had a full run through with Rob critiquing us. Not going to lie I was a bit nervous because we haven't seen him in ages.
Rob was there for us to see where his wisdom could fix our wisdom.
coming closer to the end of the week we started to do full run through with the ques and exits and music. Runing order was also completed
To also celebrate our last performance of the year we thought that we would all come out and end with a bang.Stay tuned for the video to find out
Week 5
TECH RUN WEEK & PERFORMANCE
In this hectic week we had a deadline of all props and costumes that had to be set in place.Health and safety rules of our set and printed versions of the run through backstage. To make our performance even better we thought of made it more better then it already is was to adding love quotes at the end of ever wedding video scene to engage our audience and to even connect the story with there sections. Our tech run went smoothly with a couple of delays. But thank God that we prepared this in our first week so it wasn't much of a hassle.

In evaluation, I thought Love and Information was a very interesting and fun play to perform. For us it was all about how love and information unites the whole world and makes it a better place. In addition to that working with my group was amazing because some of us hadn't worked together before. Finally this piece really helped me improve my 'breaking the fourth wall' technique , which was a target of mine from the beginning of the year.
